Shredding: The Original Data Security Solution

While information security is part of our everyday lives, there was a time when keeping documents private was a foreign concept. The invention of a simple machine almost a century ago has incredible ties to the double blockchain data security we offer today.

The First Shredding Machine
In the 1930s, German tool and machine repairman Adolf Ehinger secretly printed anti-Nazi propaganda in his spare time. This was undoubtedly a risky endeavor due to the highly contentious information mixed with a volatile political leadership at the time. Ehinger knew he needed a way to hide this confidential information from the authorities.

Seeing the need for a solution, Ehringer developed a method to cut paper into pieces quickly so the remnants could be separated and discarded before anyone could read its contents. The machine caught on, and during the 1940s, local Germans and government entities bought the device for their own document security, ironically. Ehringer continued to grow and refine his shredders, now sold around the globe. In 1959, his company, EBA Maschinenfabrik, introduced the first cross-cut shredders, which cut paper in both horizontal and vertical directions, making it even harder to reassemble and view documents.

Over time, paper shredders evolved and became smaller, more affordable, with less “readable” shreds. By the end of the 1990s, the average consumer could easily purchase a home shredder to destroy credit cards and confidential information on their own.

Shredding Modern Data
With the advancement of technology in the 2010s, shredding important information became quite a challenge. How do you securely house or destroy something that was never physically in your hands to begin with?

Out of the brilliant engineering mind of Sollensys CEO, Don Beavers, came a reimagined blockchain technology designed to protect important documents and valuable digital assets. At the heart of blockchain technology is the shredding of your information into near quantum particles. Unlike conventional shredding, blockchain technology not only shreds but scatters your digital assets to thousands of nodes around the country. Your data is untouchable by hackers but always safe and available to you. In fact, with the push of a button, you (and only you) can recall and reassemble your documents.

In a world where being cyber hacked is not a question of ‘if’ but ‘when,’ the ingenious shredding machine invented by Mr. Ehinger and modernized by Mr. Beavers is the cornerstone to online data security.
