A Passion for Being the Best
As one of 3 sons in his family, Kristen learned early that to get what he wanted he had to compete for it. This baked-in competitive spirit has served him well. From being an award-winning national bodybuilder to consistently exceeding expectations as a global sales leader, Kristen is devoted to perpetually being only the best version of himself.
Kristen received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management from the University of Hardin-Baylor in 2011. During a study abroad to Morocco with the UMHB College of Business, Kristen collaborated with other classmates and Argan Oil to develop a business plan; their contribution ultimately helped bring the product to the international market.
We really immersed ourselves in the culture, which gave us a deep understanding and appreciation for the company and the product. We got to translate that value into a business plan to bring Argan Oil to the world. The experience ignited in me a passion to bring innovators to market, innovators with solutions that improve peoples’ daily lives. That’s what drew me to the tech industry and, consequently, to make Austin my home.– Ed
Kristen’s first job after college was with Sprint, where he quickly catapulted from a retail Sales Representative to Manager to Regional Manager in 3 years after consistently achieving top sales in the region. As Regional Manager, Kristen was responsible for hiring, training, and developing staff. He excelled at leading teams and developing strategies to drive revenue.
At Sprint Kristen had a mentor, Ezra Cornado, who taught him the value of cultivating customer relationships beyond the initial sales transaction to an ongoing nurturing experience for the duration of the product life cycle. Ezra also taught him that the best leaders are ones who advance the success of the team, not just themselves. After nearly 4 years at Sprint, Kristen was ready for more of a challenge.
Being drawn to technology, he sought out an opportunity with Dell in 2013 and he landed a job as a Technical Sales Representative selling servers, networking, and storage solutions.
Kristen was first assigned the task of converting new business from “greenfield accounts” – accounts that bought limited products or strictly from competitors. Kristen collaborated with his outside sales team to create unique, targeted strategies for each account by illustrating how Dell products could help the customer realize their own business goals. His success in converting business with these accounts earned him a promotion from commercial to enterprise accounts.
After nearly 3 years at Dell, Kristen decided to make a career pivot. The market was changing. Customers were looking to go from hardware to cloud services. Kristen landed a position at Rackspace as an Account Executive.
At Rackspace Kristen was responsible for selling cloud services and hosting to commercial and enterprise customers. In addition to devising tailored C-Suite to CIO sales strategies, Kristen was also responsible for leading customized customer training and troubleshooting service tickets. In his short time at Rackspace Kristen excelled as a top performer, earning himself a sales trip to Mexico.
Reluctantly, Kristen left Rackspace to move to Houston to be closer to family and took a job with Wonderware West, a SaaS company, as an Inside Sales Representative. Kristen was responsible for customer relationship management and collaborating with the outbound sales team to develop new opportunities. While Kristen genuinely enjoyed his job, it made him realize that he wanted the opportunity to join the sales team in the field, to travel to account locations and be a part of the one-on-one customer interactions.
A year later VMWare reached out to Kristen with just that opportunity as a Networking & Security [NSX] Specialist. He accepted and moved back to Austin. At VMware Kristen’s job was a hybrid of working onsite and being in the field selling the Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC) network virtualization platform to enterprise and global accounts.
Not long after joining the NSX Team, Kristen made a lateral move to the State and Local Education Department or SLED team to cover multiple states in the northern midwest. Succeeding as a team leader and consistently over-achieving quotas are what won him the promotion he wanted to Global Account Manager. It was in this position that Kristen got to do the kind of international business strategy he was inspired to do from his experience with Argan oil.
Kristen constantly impresses me with his work ethic and drive. Customers often express that he plays a critical part of the team. It’s been a pleasure to see him evolve over the years, specifically his journey to the iGAM [inside Global Account Manager] team. We are excited to see what the future holds for Kristen.– Mariah Hotter-Finleon, Sr. Inside Sales Manager – AMER Global Accounts
It was as a Senior Inside Global Account Manager that Kristen came to work with Tony Motto, Sollensys COO. They worked well together and shared many common beliefs and values. When Kristen learned about Sollensys from Tony, he was intrigued and thought joining the Sollensys team an awesome opportunity.
